Import customer csv file using current customer_id values

Hello,

My apologies if this has been asked and answered elsewhere (please direct me to what I couldn’t find). I have a file with several thousand customer records we would want to migrate from our old shopping setup to Magento Professional. We need to retain the current customer ID numbers when the file is imported. Once the old customer records are imported, we can use Magento’s auto-increment to change customer numbers for new customers. We need those numbers to be searchable, which is why we’d like to make them the ID numbers found in the DB tables. The old customer ID numbers are not always sequential (e.g. they could go 1004, 1005, 1134, 1245, 1246, 1247, etc.).

Is there a way to override the current way that Magento assigns ID numbers during the importing of CSV files, the re-enable the incrementing after the old customers are imported?

Thanks.

Frank

Hey!

Looking for the very same solution - did you find a way to circumvent the standard behavior of Magento?

Best! Daniel
