I am trying to open a small e-commerce website. I am using shared hosting using mochahost, which should be fine as I will probably have less than 1,000 hits a day (at first, at least).
Mochahost provides “free shared SSL” and discusses how to use that here: http://www.mochasupport.com/kayako/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid;=326
I have enabled “Use Secure URL’s in frontend” and have input my base URL info on the system/config/web/secure tab. My website works fine until i hit “checkout” and then it just times out after about a minute.
My question is: Will magento work using the free shared SSL or do I have to have a static IP address and purchase a $9.99 certificate from some other website and install it?
In this article: http://www.magjournal.com/2009/05/adding-ssl-support-to-magento/, on step 3, it mentions that one must “symlink” directories. I don’t have a “private_html” folder on my server, but I do have a “SSL” folder, and I also have a folder within my root folder where magento is installed called “_private”. Are the certain files that need to be copied or symlinked to these folders in order for this all to work?
