Hi,

I am unable to upgrade through the Magento Connect (is that true that I have to set all the permissions for all the files and folders in Magento to 777 in order for me to be able to upgrade? Is it possible to do that temporarily and then reset it back after the upgrade?). Anyway - so I was attempting to upgrade through SSH. I followed the steps but here is what happens:

I’m trying to put the following command (pear install magento-core/Mage_All_Latest) through putty and it gives me an Error.... I have access to the jail shell access. The error message is :

PHP Warning: Unknown (): Unable to load dynamic library
‘/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20020429/mcrypt.so’ -
/usr/lib/php/extensions/no-debug-non-zts-20020429/mcrypt.so:cannot

Cannot initialize ‘magento-core/Mage_All_Latest’, invalid or missing
package file
Package “magento-core/Mage_All_Latest” is not valid
install failed

The reply from the support of my hosting provider was:

You will need to contact the script developer and ask them what the problem could be. You may not be able to install this with only jailed shell, and unfortunately we can’t give you full shell access on a shared server.

I know there are a lot of smart people out here. Would anyone of you know?

Thanks kiss

Allysin

Allysin,

I hope you made a backup of your site before updating.
I had/have same problem as you and a few people response to that…
Some people say something like “I didn’t have a problem with an upgrade” which is not very helpful, some people just say they also have problems…

One advice was try to update Magento to at least make all modifications to database, then just copy core file manually from downloaded latest Magento files manually to overwrite them.
I am not sure if it will work fine, but I guess we don’t have much choice.

The one thing for sure: we need to do backups as often as possible. With Magento taking more and more space on a server it become more and more problematic.

Good luck!

Have you tried upgrading through Magento Connect Manager?
