The number of tables in Magento can vary quite a lot so you shouldn\’t necessarily use the number of tables as a test to see if the upgrade has happened successfully.

As a test, try creating an empty database with the same DB user and edit your app/etc/local.xml file and point it at this new empty DB

Then hit the front page, Magento will actually create a new empty database for you.

I also want to upgrade Magento to a newer version. I have searched and posted some questions in magento upgrade forums but I did not find any solution yet.

There is not any good documentation on how to start upgrade to newer version. Can you share how did you run the upgrade? Please.

I need the steps in points so that there will be no confusion and I can start upgrading without reading each and every post in these forums.

Its very urgent so please share if you have done it successfully.

Thanks in Advance
