Anyway to edit the pop up messages so they don’t push the site down?

I can’t seem to get it to work using z-index or position: relative with guidance. Has anyway attempted to change how global messages are displayed?

I’m trying right now and it’s driving me crazy. I’ve removed:

<?php echo $this->getChildHtml('global_messages'?>
<?php
echo $this->getChildHtml('messages'?>

from the template/page/1column.phtml (the template I’m working with atm) and removed:

<block type="core/messages" name="global_messages" as="global_messages"/>
<
block type="core/messages" name="messages" as="messages"/>

from my page.xml layout in an attempt to figure out of I’m working with the right stuff. Apparently I’m not because messages still display.

I’ll keep you updated… help would be appreciated.

I’ve decided to keep the messages because for whatever reason I can’t remove them.

I just set it to an absolute position so it sits on top of everything.

Could you explain how you did this?

I would like mine to stick to the bottom left of the browser window if at all possible

I set their css position to absolute and just applied top and left position to it.

You’d probably need to set it to bottom: 0 and left: whatever

.messages { width:442px; overflow:hidden; position:absolute; top: 24px; left: 197px; }

This is what I did and it worked. You’d want to adjust the top and left part to whatever you want. That way you can place it somewhere on top of other layers. Mine’s all the way at the top in an empty space
