I installed full package as a sub domain.

All admin and website worked fine. it’s maybe worth mentioning I installed all of this by installing the sample data first.

This is my first time using the connect manager, the script has also never been upgraded before by any other means

I went to system/connect manager and logged in. I paste this key: magento-core/Mage_All_Latest

Clicked install and it ran, this is what it said:

I then clicked refresh and got a this internal server message.

Internal Server Error

Please contact the server administrator, mxxxxxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxx and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

What am I doing wrong using this connect manager? Did I use the correct key to find upgrades?

Thanks

Magento Connect Manager is known to reset the file permissions after every download/upgrade. Try changing your file permissions especially “index.php” and it should be working correctly after that.

Hi, Thanks. That fixed the site and I’ve now been able to log back into the admin panel and the main site, they have succesfully upgaded to version 1.1.8.

The problem I’m having now is when I sign into the admin panel and go to system/connect manager I just get the internal system error message the same as mentioned on my previous post.

I’ve checked the file permissions on the files I think might be creating the problem, but no luck.

What is causing this?

Thanks

I’ve just found that I had missed a few files where I had to change the permissions.

It all works now smile

Thanks a lot.

Do I have to check all files to make sure they are the correct permission every time I use the connect manager.

Because There are a lot of files to check, it is really nessersary?

Thanks again

Hi,

I didn’t notice this until now, but the admin loads and the front end loads perfectly, but the control buttons in the admin panel don’t work apart from “dashboard”.
Eg sales, catalog, customers, promotions, newsletters, CMS, report, system, do not work at all.

What’s causing this, Have i done something wrong?

I am unable to check the front end because I cant create any products to test the front end, and i didnt load the sample data with the instalation.

@ martinn12005: All of your issues are caused by file permissions set wrongly after a download/upgrade using Magento Connect Manager.
You will need to reset everything to the right permissions after you perform a download/upgrade.

If you have SSH access, you can use the following command:-

find . -type d -print0 | xargs -0 chmod 0755 && find . -type f -print0 | xargs -0 chmod 0644

Otherwise you can ask your hosting provider to do it for you. wink

I am still struggling with this. Having upgraded to 1.1.8 I have lost access due to Internal Server Error etc

I have tried to change permissions on files but am obviously missed something. Assuming I don’t have SSH access (I do but don’t know how to access command line/run commands etc) could I please have an idiot proof list of which directories and which files need to be changed to what permissions?

Pretty please?!

All files need to be set to 644 and all directories to 755.
Other than that, the following needs to be set to 777 (unless your server is suPHP/suEXEC enabled):-
app/etc , var, and media
