Upgraded PHP on server; Magento 1.3.2.1 now generates no HTML at all (public or admin)

After upgrading PHP from 5.2.2 to 5.3.6, Magento 1.3.2.1 no longer works. It was working fine before the upgrade.

Context: other sites, including WordPress 3.2, are working fine post-PHP-upgrade.
magento-check.php says “Congratulations! Your server meets the requirements for Magento.” & states that the minimal PHP version has been met, Safe Mode is off, MySQL minimum requirements are met, and states that I have all the required PHP extensions.

Viewing source code from the site’s home page or the /index.php/store_admin/ page results in nothing.

Apache logs don’t reveal anything untoward. “apachectl configtest” returns “Syntax OK”, which it would, since Apache .conf files weren’t touched.

Any ideas on where to turn next to get this site back up would be appreciated.

Found a solution here: http://www.geekieblog.com/2011/03/magento-1-3-x-environment-won’t-run-on-php-5-3/

Beware, though, that they have an extra underscore in at least one place, and all single-quotes have been converted to curly quotes, which won’t work at all.
