Watermarks are losing transparency

I have added watermarks to my products, I have tried using transparent PNG’s and transparent Gif files and neither are working correctly as the images seem to have a white background.

Images are created in Photoshop and have been exported correctly.

Attached are screen shots, (the magnifying glass should be on a transparent background)

Any help appreciated!

I’m willing to bet your product image is also transparent?

For some reason it doesn’t like overlaying a transparent imagine over another transparent one. As a temporary solution you could give your product a background however if you have multiple stores with different themes and the products showing in them, then it may not look right unless you also give the image a border.

I also blogged about it here: Auroral

Hmm not sure then, works for me as suggested in that blog I linked to.

Perhaps try using a solid png and an opaque one?

Was the issue fixed for you in the latest 1.2 release?

In 1.3 the issue persist - Adding watermark make product picture foggy. Theres something messed up in how pictures are shown in magento since the beggining.
Ive post this issue long ago and theres no solution to this.

Agreed - using watermarks makes the images appear faded. Even on 1.3.1.

Well, the issue is now reported as ‘resolved’ so hopefully 1.3.2 will see this sorted.

I am also having the problem of the “faded” product image after attempting to use a watermark image. I went to Admin > System > Configuration > Design > Product Image Watermarks and deleted the watermark image I was using, however my images still appear faded.

Has anyone else found a suitable fix? I am using ver 1.2.1 and am trying to finish my initial site configuration before attempting an upgrade.

Thanks,
Carrie

Hi, if you paste the 1.3.2.1 version of lib/varien/image/adapter/Gd2.php into your 1.3.1 version of magento, all is fixed. and no need for a pesky upgrade!

HOORAY!

With the following function, you can add transparency to watermark image. You can increase the value of $watermarkImageOpacity for more transparency.

watermark($watermarkImage$positionX=0$positionY=0$watermarkImageOpacity=30$repeat=false)

For more info, go to the following link: Create Watermark Image in Magento

Hi,

I don’t know if anyone is still following this thread, but I had the same issue, even with version 1.5.1.  However it was short lived because I found the keepTransparency() has a default of TRUE, when it was called with the resize() method.

Well, I just thought to tell Magento to resize the watermark, but using the same dimensions as the graphic, and hey presto!! It worked.

So just change:

System > Configuration > General > Design > Product Image Watermarks >> and enter in the “Base Image Watermark Default Size” the dimension of your graphic.  Done.

Hopefully this benefits someone, as I couldn’t find a solution anywhere.

if ($this->getWatermarkFile()) {
$this->_keepTransparency = false;
}

I added this just above

// add misk params as a hash

in Mage\Catalog|Model\Product\Image.php

hope it helps.
