Hi Trying too run Magento on Easyspace servers!

Would anyone be able to help? Trying to set up Magento on an easyspace server. Software has uploaded fine and i have setup Mysql05 dadatbase ok. When i go through the magento setup process and it try\’s to access this database i come up with error:

o The URL \"http://www.unrealcakes.co.uk/\" is not accessible.
o Unable to read response, or response is empty

All the passwords seem to be in order! Spoken to easyspace and they say it is not a problem at their end and told me to see if Megento website has any advice - so here i am!?!!?

They did mention that the database was on another server to where it is being hosted - this might course a problem?

Any thoughts would be most grateful.

I think I’ll be trying out Amazons EC2 system for my next site.

I’ve been reading about it on the web, a high-cpu medium instance has enough power for a few thousand daily visitors and is cheaper than a dedicated box.

..and if its not fast enough it can be upgraded very easily.

Pingdom was showing a page load of 6 sec with the clients template - not cool.  We own quick dell r610 servers in the fastest datacenter in the UK, so we decided to adopt a different approach. We setup the web server with NGINX + PHP-FPM + APC + FASTCGI this apparently being the optimum for the magento cart. Its gone from a page load of 6sec to 1sec with zero loads on the server. When you are looking for magento hosting you need to consider page speed and apache hosting can be slow.

Its an adult store so be warned.

you really cant beat a well setup Apache server.. use http://www.freespeedtest.com/ to test.. pingdom is US based so gives you a very poor real world picture of what is going on if you are testing UK based servers. Using http://www.freespeedtest.com/ our demo site loads in <0.2 seconds from the UK and Germany and <1 second from most of the rest of the world…

real usable for people that need hosting. But find one fast and cheap and stable hosting is a really challenge task.

Amazons EC2 system will be faster and flexible and independent for magento hosting and it will be fast too.

Sorry to bump this badger, but I’m after a Magento host myself, for an eCommerce site (selling Jewellery) in the UK. Already have a nice magento website template I have my eye on. Hosting wise, I need something fast, secure and reliable. Ideally for <150 SKU’s and not much traffic to start with. I’m on a fairly limited budget as you can imagine, starting up with no customers yet at all.

So far I’ve been keen on Aegis and NuBlue, but not really sure if there are others to recommend. No idea how to check the speeds these guys offer. I’m guessing I’ll also need SSL and with that a dedicated IP? What confused me is why on these sites QuickSSL Premium is £130, where it’s only $140 on the actual GeoTrust site?

I was also thinking of hosting a secondary website (HTML5 based creative portfolio, mainly image based), so might need a package that offers 2 or more separate domains.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
