We setup a customers site today and it was a first for us playing around with magento. Pingdom was showing a page load of 6 sec with the clients template - not cool.  We own quick dell r610 servers in the fastest datacenter in the UK, so we decided to adopt a different approach. We setup the web server with NGINX + PHP-FPM + APC + FASTCGI this apparently being the optimum for the magento cart. Its gone from a page load of 6sec to 1sec with zero loads on the server. When you are looking for magento hosting you need to consider page speed and apache hosting can be slow.

Its an adult store so be warned.

1 second is still pretty slow.. in fact if you look here http://internetsupervision.com/scripts/urlcheck/check.aspx?checkurl=http://www.sextoyplus.com you can see how your store loads around the world.

you really cant beat a well setup Apache server.. use http://www.freespeedtest.com/ to test.. pingdom is US based so gives you a very poor real world picture of what is going on if you are testing UK based servers. Check it out http://internetsupervision.com/scripts/urlcheck/check.aspx?checkurl=http://demo.dx3webs.com

Using http://www.freespeedtest.com/ our demo site loads in <0.2 seconds from the UK and Germany and <1 second from most of the rest of the world…

I would like to present you the new transparent database and rating platform for companies who offer Magento Commerce webhosting. You can find details about different companies, compare different packages with detailed ratings or find your perfect hosting package.

Customers can score the support, service and price of the listed webhosting packages. Additionally the performance of the hosted webshops will be measured and will be part of the score. For this benchmark, the Magento Speed Test (http://www.magespeedtest.com) is used. An account is not mandatory for this process but recommended to participate in the forum.

Webhosting companies are also welcome to join the platform and to set up hosting packages. This service is completely free of charge and will offer you a great way of presenting your products and the performance of your Magento webshops.

Please feel free to have a look at http://www.magento-hoster.com and share your opinion.

Nimbus Hosting is worth a look too. We handle a few few high traffic Magento sites and use a custom nginx and MariaDB setup to improve performance.

Sorry to bump this badger, but I’m after a Magento host myself, for an eCommerce site (selling Jewellery) in the UK. Already have a nice magento website template I have my eye on. Hosting wise, I need something fast, secure and reliable. Ideally for <150 SKU’s and not much traffic to start with. I’m on a fairly limited budget as you can imagine, starting up with no customers yet at all.

So far I’ve been keen on Aegis and NuBlue, but not really sure if there are others to recommend. No idea how to check the speeds these guys offer. I’m guessing I’ll also need SSL and with that a dedicated IP? What confused me is why on these sites QuickSSL Premium is £130, where it’s only $140 on the actual GeoTrust site?

I was also thinking of hosting a secondary website (HTML5 based creative portfolio, mainly image based), so might need a package that offers 2 or more separate domains.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi i hope we can help. we offer a magento shared plan with all your requirements and our Geotrust quick SSL is £69 and includes free installation.

Our magento pro account gives the option to host two sites and comes with a dedicated ip for your SSL and SSH access. Please find below a link to a magento benchmark site where you can see us and other host results

Anything less than $50-80/mth for Magento and you might as well give up, you will not generate the revenue to justify the cost of implementation. Magento CE is designed for companies with revenues in $100s thousands to low $millions, EE is $3million to low $10s millions. Use any one of the three methods below, if you want to generate $250,000 revenue (not profits), you will need around $200/mth hosting, otherwise Google and/or visitors will not bother as your site will not be balanced, normally the attrition rate is around 6-9months.

Micro Enterprise – Less than $2million revenue/yr & less than 10 employees
Revenue Based: Hosting is 20% of IT spend and IT spend is 5% of yearly revenue / 12mths for monthly hosting budget
Visitor Based:$0.0139 x number of visitors per month for monthly hosting budget
Order Based:$0.50 x number of orders per month for monthly hosting budget

Hello,

Before the hosting provider and plan admin needs to choose the server configuration.

Please check out Best server configuration for your Magento store: the Why and the How.

We are also proud to announce our new free service for Magento based stores: Server Configuration Calculator is a free service that provides you with server requirements based on the parameters of your store and desired server response time.

Thank you.
