I installed Magento in the root of my public_html folder. Magento works very nicely but my problem is that when i try to browse to any subfolder i get the meganto 404 page “whoops our bad”

is this .htaccess issue?

i need to run xcart in a subfolder until magento is stable and i have a theme created for it.

any ideas?

Magento, like many such solutions, takes over the way your URL works via ...well, a lot of things. It’s not just .htaccess.

However, this specific issue is most likely .htaccess, as it takes away the need for “index.php” to be used in the URL. You could remove the rule that eliminates “index.php” from the visible URL, but this might break links within your site (depending on how they were created).

Better to move Magento to a subfolder and have xCart in the root folder (public_html) rather than vise-versa (assuming xCart doesn’t do the same thing as Magento)
