Hey..  that title says it all.. the only tab that works is “Dashboard” and that’s where I’m already at.  I tried IE on my system and went to a public computer.. still no luck there.  I also tried clearing cache and cookies.  The odd thing is my it’s working fine for my developer but he’s on the other side of the globe.  Any help with this is greatly appreciated.  Thanks,

Joel

I have been using Magento for about a week and I have been having the exact same admin problem that you have described. I have four separate test stores installed on our server and after 24 to 48 hours they all start having Admin Panel problems. I primarily use FireFox 3.01 but the same problem occurs with Safari 3.1.2.

Like you, we had an instance today where one of our developers could not get the admin panel to work but it was working fine for me while working a few miles away across town.

I have several of the Admin Panel links bookmarked (and those links still work) but none of the drop-down menus work anymore.

Check the file permissions on /js/index.php

Once I changed mine to 644 the menus worked again.

Thanks very much for the guidance - I’ve been doing this stuff for years and the Magento install has been the most troublesome of ANY product I have tried before - lucky I really want to use Magento otherwise I would have given up yesterday!!!

Anyway .. . . I’m hosting on Rochen reseller account and what fixed mine was a mix of the above:

change /js permission to 755 and the /js/index.php permission to 644

Why the permissions are all wrong with the install (regardless of the install method) has me dumbfounded - even the install instructions are misleading and confusing.

Let’s all hope that Magento really delivers what we all want in the long term . . . . good luck all.  wink

Use cPanel or FileZIlla to change the file permissions as in the pics.

Hope that helps.

The permission stuff worked to get the admin drop down menu working but every link I click redirects me to the dashboard. Some of them doesn’t even point to the admin area anymore. Instead it gives me a 404 on the public site.

this is so strange… and crappy…

Edit:
Logging out then in again made it work. But I don’t like this kind of behavior.

Brilliant! Solved my problem with frozen buttons in frontend and no dropdowns in the backend.
Thanks a million.

How come Magento has soooo many permissions troubles. One file wrong and the whole thing is broken. Ahh well - still the best open source so can’t complain really.

Hi,

Yes there does seem to be some errors with the admin dropdown menu!

All you want to do is selct Sales Orders and it redirects you to the Dashboard all the time!

My permissions on /js and /js/index.php are set at 777 so I gues that is not the cause?

Anyone else who is aware - or is this a bug with Magento?

Thanks in advance!

I had the same problem, thank god for this thread.

I had to change my js/index.php permissions to 644 after installing some extensions.

Sigh… Magento.

@ Pezomatic That solution worked for me too!  Thanks for the help!  What a stupid issue for such an “Advanced” cart.
