Posting again here. Mistakenly posted to Magento Connect forum

Just installed a fresh 1.5 and went to install the Australia extension by fontis through magento connect manager.
Chose the new 2.0 key http://connect20.magentocommerce.com/community/Fontis_Australia

Checking dependencies of packages
Installing package community
/Fontis_Australia 2.0.7

CONNECT ERROR
Cant write to file: /home/xxxxxx/public_html/downloader/.cache/community/Fontis_Australia-2.0.7/app/design/adminhtml/default/default/template/fontis/australia/system/config/form/field/array_dropdown.phtml

I am running suEXEC and I checked ownership and permissions (644 files, 755 directories)

I checked the .cache/community directory that gets created and noticed it has 777 permissions even though I have set the new custom permissions within MCM....

Previously I installed via shell with pear. Is this still possible now that pear has been removed?

Hello,

Does the file listed in this error already exist? I usually get this when the file is there to begin with.

Try disableing cache before you install and remove your cache folder from /var/cache

The go and install your module

Log out of admin and log in

Refresh cache

Found a solution:

Download the extension via http://freegento.com/ddl-magento-extension.php and upload it via FTP.

Works a treat then.

Hey guys, I’m still working on trying to find out if there is another common reason for this besides permissions. I am not able to reproduce :/ can someone post some screen shots of this error when using Magento Connect Manager I’d appreciate it.

Still no answer to this problem? I\’m having the same problem:

-disabled cache,
- set alle permissions to rwx
- set user to al folders to local user
- Cleared cache folder (both var/cach and downloader/.cache)
- Tryed to install but with no succes

My Magento install is running on a server on wich i have full acces and developed many Magento shops on it before. This is the first time i\’ve run in to this problem.

Rhonda i\’ve added a screenshot of connect

Looks like there’s some problem with non ASCI filename.
Take a look at http://kb.magenting.com/content/22/70/en/magento-connect-error-can’t-write-to-file-downloader-cache-community.html

That solved the issue for me!!
