I have installed the latest magento on a godaddy server and it is running fine except for one thing.

When i goto system>>Configuration then click on a option in the sidebar

specifically the store manager and any extension that has been installed that has a configuration to it, I get a 404 error everytime. Does anyone know how to fix this. I have been searching for days…

thanks..

Try to reset Magento -> System -> Permissions -> Roles of the administrator user.

I’ve seen a similar issue here: http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/223106/

Ryan Lynx

I had the same problem as described above. When checking in Magento Connect it showed I had the 1.031 (beta) version installed. After turning off the option to allow Alpha/Beta releases, and uninstall and reinstall the extension, it then show I have now the 1.3.1.2 (stable) installed. After clearing cache, the configuration page showed fine, and I have no other issues.

(I am running Magento Community Edition 1.5.0.1)

~~~ let me know if this works for you as well.
Rhonda
Make sure you log out and back into the Admin area after following the above instructions.  I reinstalled stable releases and cleared Magento’s cache but still had the 404 error page until I logged out and back in.
The ACL`s were only load when you login into the backend. When installing a new extension with own configuration section and open it without logout / login, then you will get a 404 because the admin permissions have to reload.
