Hi, i need some help customizing magento. Yes, I have read the design guide, it’s great! But it seems that my comprehension level is not enough :(

For example, I would like to show the header links (wishlist, my cart, etc) in other place (bottom for example) of the header container. I want to show the search bar first at the right column (i am using that template with one column right) instead of the header.

But more important, I wish to understand the location and modification logic for these things.

Thank you very very very much!
Andrea

Ok I have gone back and made some adjustments

all you have to do is make changes with the CSS return the catalogsearch.xml

<default>

        <
reference name="header">
            <
block type="core/template" name="top.search" as="topSearch" template="catalogsearch/form.mini.phtml"/>
        </
reference>
    </default>

Save and upload

then we need to fin the CSS file boxes.css

find the code

/* Mini search */
.mini-search {
    position
:absolute;

top:0;

right:0;

width:300px;

height:30px;

padding:1px 20px 0 40px;

background:url(../images/mini_search_bg.gifno-repeat;

zoom:1;

}
.mini-search .input-text { width:212pxmargin-right:4px}

and replace with this

/

Mini search */
.
mini-search {
    position
:absolute;

top:89px;

left:-15px;

width:225px;

height:30px;

padding:1px 20px 0 40px;

/*background:url(../images/mini_search_bg.gif) no-repeat;
    zoom:1;*/

}
.mini-search .input-text { width:132pxmargin-right:6px}

remember you must up load the CSS file boxes.css as well

It totally works for me I have tried it a again

for the folks who used the search

i was trying the same with version 1.1.6 and wasn’t satisfied with the stuff i found.
first of all you should switch on the translate inline in the * system * > * configuration * > Additional > Developer functions (I translated from german language file to english - don’t know but should be right wink )
that way you make sure you can actually see what files you need to change.

for changing the search bar from the header to the right column you need to edit /app/design/frontend/yourTemplate/yourTemplate/layout/ catalogsearch.xml

in there you need to change:

<reference name="header">
            <
block type="core/template" name="top.search" as="topSearch" template="catalogsearch/form.mini.phtml"/>
        </
reference>

to:

<reference name="right">
            <
block type="core/template" name="top.search" as="topSearch" template="catalogsearch/form.mini.phtml"/>
        </
reference>

That should be easy to do with other content you want to change too. Next step you will probably need to do is change the order.
In my case I want to let the search appear on the right top of everything. For that you need to either add the attribute “before” or “after”
in the modules that order on the right. The default value for this should be before="right.permanent.callout" << thats for example the definition from reports.xml - so change it and think logically what you want first and last ...

hope could save some folks trying out stuff grin

cheers.
