I came up with this basic starter module that other modules can later reference for all of us who have multiple shipping origins/locations.
This is a basic outline of what this module/extension would include

vendor/warehouse profile tab in admin, profiles to include:

- name of vendor/ warehouse
- location of where items are shipping from
- squ prefix( first 3 number or letter sequence before actual squ separated by - )to pull zipcode for shipping off each item at checkout
- a option to add drop ship fees if any, that would automatically be added to the shipping&/or handling fees at check out
- shipping standards & options if offered** ( if offering different shipping options[such as ups,usps,fedex etc… or expedited, overnight,
next day etc...) allow for customer to choose option if i choose to extend offer like a check box in profile to turn this on or off or
enable/disable] otherwise it would use the vendors “default” shipping option
- where/how orders are placed (email,fax,website etc)
- place to add notes,contact information,location of business if different from shipping address, shipping return terms , login info for
online orders/ access to product information and inventory

the profile would then be used to pull zip from squ prefix to calculate shipping and shipping quotes and **possibility of allowing customer to choose options when checking out when multiple shipment origin products are purchased like at amazon vs one large shipping amount.

I have asked a team of professional developers/programmers to create this but we would like to see how many of you are interested in this and if you would be willing to pledge $ to the creation of this. we will be reviewing this thread for any other suggestions and to see how many are interested before starting a pledge . the developers will be monitoring this thread as well to help answer questions if needed.Thank you and i look forward to contributing this to the community extensions

I would like to make some suppliers available to some customers (or customer groups) and not to others : could you include this option in your specs ?

i think it might involve quite a bit of coding my suggestion would be to contribute to the creation of what i have outlined and speak with my programmers about adding that on, i personally don’t need it but if more of you are then ill talk to them about it and get an estimate of what it would cost to add that as well. So, if anyone else is interested in adding a feature for customer groups that would allow you to set to global or specific group please add to this thread and put “vote for customer group specification add on”
Like i said in the first post this is just a basic starter module that can be added on to or used to pull information for future modules.  For example: My goal in the future is to use the first module to pull info for automatic email or fax orders to appropriate company by following the 3 #or letter prefix it would know who its going to then it would drop the 3 letter squ when sending order to supplier.
Im hoping that there are enough of you who would like this starter module that the cost of the pledge will be less then the cost of the extension on magento connect in the future. so if you truly need this please vote so i know how much to make the pledge amount.

I have seen 4 people (including yourself) that are ambitious about developing a drop shipping extension.  I’m not sure if you’ve spoken with them or not but if you haven’t, I suggest doing so to get a comprehensive list of features and to see if any development has already taken place. As for a pledge, I’ll have to ask my boss.

2. nafnaf1000 has an extension in development. He states, “when it is fineshed you will be able to use it in the magento store but it will run off of a diffrent database. As of right now it is costing my about $8,000.”

3. Lastly, Neuraxial LLC posted a job about a month and a half ago for drop shipping functionality. I don’t have a Magento user name, but they can be reached at

Below is the feature list from the job posting in case it gets closed:

“ - Each product has an attribute that signifies which distributor it is going to ship from.

- Each distributor is assigned their zipcode, which is used to calculate and display exact shipping cost during checkout.

- During checkout, when live shipping quotes are being retrieved, we need to combine products that have the same distributor and get a shipping quote for them, then add that quote to any other quotes for different distributor’s products, and just show one final shipping total to the customer.

Additionally, beyond just calculating shipping with multiple ship-from addresses, it would be beneficial for a drop-shipping operation to have the following (please estimate separately):

- Once the payment is processed, distributors get a purchase order and packing slip for only their products, while the customer gets a receipt for everything (like it is by default now).

- Multiple order tracking codes can be entered for one order (if parts of the order ship from different distributors).

We are looking for someone who can take this on and complete it immediately. We believe that this is a feature that many other Magento users desire, and we are happy to leave the copyrights with the developer so that they may give it to the community or sell it as they please. What’s the status of this module? I’m just getting started on a project for a client for whom Magento would be perfect, except that they need to handle drop shipping from multiple vendors. I don’t care about export function, just that the cart can calculate shipping from the vendor or product zip code.

update: I can probably contribute to development for this, if it will be available for the project i’m working on (ie., if it’s usable or close to it).

If someone develops a commercial module to support this, we would purchase.

just a quick note so you know where we are at, we are moving ahead on this project , im waiting on reply from my programmers as far as total cost and time frame until completion i should have an answer by monday and then we will open the pledge.

That is beyond the scope of Magento. This extension is geared towards companies with existing ecommerce shops that dropship all or some of their orders.

Any updates on this project?

I would like to know when we will have drop shipping feature.

I don’t know if alicia is still working on this, but I would be willing to work with other developers, on the creation of this module.

Some features it should / could include: (got them from another shopping cart solution)

- Multiple sellers, all selling through one store front
- Seller profiles, custom created web pages and their own mini-website
- Customers can purchase from multiple vendors in the one order, not necessary to make purchases for each seller separately
- Vendors manage everything through an easy-to-use, web based interface with no additional software to install
- Vendors have complete control/management of their own products
- Vendors can be restricted to only creating items in certain categories within the store
- Vendors can receive email notification of new orders
- Vendors can completely manage their own orders/shipments
- Vendors can specify their own available shipping methods/zones or choose to use the store default
- Owing balances as well as payments to vendors can be calculated and logged
- Possible for vendors or store owners to view order and product statistics on a vendor level (reporting)

How may we put this project on rails?
The base specs seems ok for me .
