You can remove or change the category a product is assigned to from the manage product section. Is that what you are asking?

Hi!
Magento is a powerful shopping cart but it takes time to get used to its backend.
Try Store Manager for Magento to simplify the management of your Magento store and solve your current task.
See the screenshot attached for how to delete a product from category:

Choose Categories&Products;, use search tab to find a product. Choose categories tab (at the bottom of the page) and deassign category from the product.

You can get Store Manager for free (30 days free trial) here:

Thanks for the replying.

What I want, yes, is to delete some products, but I don\\\\\\\’t know, maybe it\’s just me, I feel that this has to be by default available and/or one of the main features an e-commerce should have.

I don\’t want just to move some products from one category to another, I want to delete them completely.

Thanks.

PS: even the forum is bugged, is anything working on this “Magento”, sorry to say it, but I get disappointing more and more, day by day
PSS: getting pissed already, trying to post I cannot....

Well, there are at least a couple of ways to delete a product:

* From the product information page - ie: the edit product page, there is the big red ‘delete’ button at the top.
* From the ‘Manage Products’ list page, select as many products as you want to delete using the left column check boxes, then select ‘delete’ from the actions dropdown on the top right.

Not too hard?

And sure the forums are having some problems at the moment, but that is due to their popularity, and big improvements are underway behind the scenes. But the forum software is unrelated to the ecommerce package.

Hey NeilA,

as I guess you know and I think you see it in all the threads, the addslashes function is not used properly, a lot of slashes are added when trying to edit… well that’s the first thing you learn when you code and play with forms, am I right?

I know how to delete the products, how to delete a random product, but let me explain a situation, a common one:
I have 3 categories with 20, 40 and as in my case with 350 products, I want to delete the products from the 3-rd category?
How, one by one?! 350 products like that?!

Should I pay 3000 dollars only for that? the other 2 versions of magento have this posibility of deleting the products?

I may not fully understand your question but I think this solution might help you:

1) Navigate to Catalog -> Manage Categories

2) Click the category you want to remove the products from.

3) Click the ‘Category Products’ tab on the category edit sheet.

4) Uncheck the products you don’t want in this category.

I want to filter the products by category and delete them afterwords.

Hello,

You can use a custom script to do this.  I took a lot of this from the following URL… made some modifications so it works with categories:  http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/20553/

function deleteCatProducts()

{
   $catToDelete
1;

$products Mage::getResourceModel('catalog/product_collection')->setStoreId(STORE_ID)->getAllIds();
    if(
is_array($products))

{

foreach ($products as $key => $productId)

{

try {
          $product
Mage::getSingleton('catalog/product')->load($productId);

$categoryIDs $product->getCategoryIds();

          if(
in_array($catToDelete$categoryIDs) && $categoryIDs !== ""{
             Mage
::dispatchEvent('catalog_controller_product_delete', array('product' => $product));

$product->delete();

}
        }
catch (Exception $e{

echo "Can't delete product w/ id: $productId";

}
      }
    }
  }

Note, I did not test this and am not responsible for any mishaps.

Actually, I must admit this is something which has been frustrating me about Magento. I was on this thread for an completely different reason, but after reading through it all I felt the need to stick my oar in! smile

Whilst magento is 1000x better than the previous cart software I used to use (rhymes with “Ken Chart”!) I do really miss the option of drilling down into a category and deleting all the products within it.. especially given that we have 25,000+ products on our site now!

That is all....

+1… Great answer, very clear. Clearly helped the guy. Wish there was a way I could directly vote your comment up. smile
