I tried to install the latest version of Fooman Speedster Extension(V 2.0.5) on Magento version: 1.4.0.1
I follow all the steps mentioned in the documentation:
1.) After installing this extension via Magento Connect make sure that /lib/minify/m.php is executable (permissions like 755 on the file itself and the containing folder should work) and /var/minifycache is writeable.
But without any luck. My frontend and backend design got weird.

Can anybody has successfully installed/configured this extension?

mod_rewrite is enabled in .htaccess aswell.
I have a fresh install with sampledata.

I had the same problem, and even after disabling the module in its configuration XML file, it STILL pulled stylesheets from the “m” folders!

I went as far as reinstalling magento this morning, and I can’t figure out which old folders to copy over to the new installation. This module really screwed me over!!!

if you can’t get the downloader to uninstall Speedster (you can usually just open the /downloader url manually) you can follow this guide:
