Glad to help.

Also, I forgot to note that you need to remove the default menu from your template as well.  I think you do that in page.xml as well.

Dave.

Hey Dave,
I love your store and the idea of a local, or georgraphically based store, on the very non-local internet.  Like the book Tribes says, you are telling a story and creating a following.  Thanks for sharing your awesome menu!
Best,
Mary

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

There is an SSL issue with this menu but it is very easy to fix and you may have already done it if you did your links right the first time.

When implementing SSL, Magento automatically switches the appropriate links in the built-in menu.  However, since this menu is an add-on it is up to the designer/store owner to set the links properly.

I had my link set up in a simple “/category” structure as opposed to a full http link.  Therefore, what was happening for me, was that when I was in a secure area if I clicked on one of the menu links it would continue to keep me in https instead of switching me back to http like the native Magento links do.

If this is sounding confusing all you need to worry about is putting the full http link in the menu instead of the “/category” way.  Here’s an example from my menu

THIS IS THE CORRECT WAY:

<
a href="http://www.humboldtlocals.com/hg" id="navhglink">
home and garden</a>

THIS WOULD BE THE WRONG WAY:

<
a href="/hg" id="navhglink">
home and garden</a>

Your site will still work either way but it would just not be working the way it should.

Someone other than me should make this menu setup into an add-on for MagentoConnect so problems like this can be avoided.  If you’re reading this and want to do that go for it but please continue to keep it open-source and free.

Thanks.

After several hours of trying to figure out why I couldnt get this to work here something I found not sure if its the right way but it does work

Additional Steps

go to app/design/frontend/default/...../template/page/html/

edit header.phtml

towards bottom

replace
<?php echo $this->getChildHtml('topMenu') ?>

with

<?php echo $this->getChildHtml('topNav') ?>

to remove old menu and add this one....

Ya, making a site and starting a business are apparently two different creatures.

It’ll be up again soon but I have to add more product before I launch.
