If the ‘Base Currency’ is not set to ‘US Dollar’, the currency box disappears and getCurrencyCount() always returns 0… only one currency installed.  That wasn’t the case, I had the Base to GBP and all other currencies enabled.

Then by setting the Base to US Dollar and getting the Currency Selection box back, I can only choose USD or Euro.

I’ve searched the forums and can’t find anything.  Anyone else having problems with the currencies?

Anyone?  I can’t believe I’m the only person seeing this problem.

In case anyone else has the same issue, I figured it out after some playing.

All you need to do is set up the currency conversion rates - System>Manage Currency Rates

Update the rates with Travelex, or whatever it’s called, and it works.
