Hey guys, I run EarBuddies. We sell affordable earplugs that don’t muffle sound, as a low cost alternative to custom moulded earplugs. They’re aimed at musicians and people who go to concerts and clubs so they don’t damage their hearing, but they’re perfect for anyone who needs to protect their hearing without sacrificing sound quality.

Been running Magento since March or so and it’s been pretty smooth sailing. There are still a few minor annoyances, but nothing that can’t be worked around :D

Hi guys!

Good to hear the good feedback from other Kiwis… I’m evaluating Magento for a client.

My client has gone for the Eftpos/ANZ eGate system, but it doesn’t look like anybody’s created a Magento payment module for it yet. What payment gateway modules are you guys using? What would you recommend?

Cheers
Julian

Hey Julian,

I think the only Kiwi flavoured payment gateway extension so far are:

Fontis Paymate for Paymate

Fontis Payment Express for DPS

I think it shouldn’t be too hard to create one for eGate if they can provide some decent documentation.

Hi Guys

I’m another Kiwi who’s moved home from across the ditch (or the West Island of NZ as I like to call it).
I’ve started a very small and simple web ‘delivery’ company (to keep my hand in more than anything) www.kibun.co.nz

Have just started playing with Magento, looks promising… lovenz.co.nz… very early in the development… just started playing around with some graphic ideas… nothing major…

Am very interested in NZ’s experiences with payment gateways.

Cheers from Whitianga!

Mark Aka Shazza (keeps people guessing)

Hi all,

Mark here from Fiji. Not a Kiwi, but I doubt we’ll ever get our own forum so hope I can camp here with you kind folk.

Have found lots of annoyances with Magento, but it’s still better then Virtuemart for shops that don’t need a proper CMS (IMO anyway).

Have 3 (wine, swimsuits, and watches) stores in various stages of development. The wine one will just be an order-system, not requiring online payment, and the other two will use PayPal.

Interested in your experiences with DPS as they are the only processor that supports Internet Merchant accounts from Fiji banks (Westpac in this case).

Cheers,
Mark

PS. Betting we whup your arse at Dubai next weekend wink

My Name is Robert. My wife and I run LERO9, a small but growing web agency. We are specialising in offering Magento e-com solutions to our clients and are looking at joining the Magento partnership program as soon as Varien works out the new program.

We have one Magento site up and running: http://www.wildpoppies.co.nz running on a dedicated server and are in the planning stages of another.

I’m looking at creating a Magento presentation for one of the upcoming NZPHP User Group meetings but that depends on the spare time I have and that’s sparse these days smile.

I’m interested in the ins and outs of New Zealand specific issues with Magento as well.

Looking forward to any Mage meetups in Auckland…

I’ll open a new shipping module thread…

Hey guys,

I’m Cam and I run Second Mile in Auckland. We’ve built two magento stores to date and are really impressed by it’s potential, but still frustrated by it’s current immaturity. That looks like it’s slowly changing for the better though.

Other than that we do pretty much anything you could want with design, xhtml, css, php, mysql and flash.

-Cam

We’re currently running www.golfwarehouse.co.nz on Magento since moving from Os Commerce.

The platform is still in its infancy however it has massive potential and is a large step up on everything else that we reviewed.

We are also looking into shipping options for NZ as this currently lets the system down slightly. I will post ideas on a separate thread.

I’m from Wellington, and am very new to Magento.
A colleague from the US introduced me to it, but I havent managed to get my head around it yet...not enough to get the install to be successful anyhow.

Pending how things go over the next few days, we will see whether I use Magento or go back to the usual storefront I use, but it appears to have potential. The install issues do let it down a bit though, I would think that improving the install methods would bring more users in. I wonder how many get stuck and then move on to another solution due to lack of documentation and not a huge population on the forum to ask help of?

I’m curious to see it in action though.

Hi guys, I am Tony from Lincoln University , Christchurch. I have been playing with asp.net shopping cart - nopcommerce for a while. I just recently tried virtuemart, zencart, and magento and found out magento is so much better than the others. I am quite new to php and would like to learn more about php and magento here. grin
