Hi:
I’m trying to install Magento on a shared hosting server and I’m getting the following error message:

PHP Extension “pdo_mysql” must be loaded.

I searched the forum but unfortunately I didn’t find a good answer that fits my problem. My phpinfo page can be found here:
http://www.bargaincollection.com/info.php

I have already contacted my hosting company but here is their response:

To install extensions on shared hosting accounts have to be reviewed by sys-admins so as it would effect anyone on the shared hosting account server & it also requires extensive testing before releasing it to the production-level web server. If that is something you need to be installed, I would recommend to submit the form at: ........ . There would be a minimum FEE of $75/hour to see if what you need is feasible & such. The other alternative is to look into VPS solutions where you could install any software that is compilable wit RED-HAT Linux server running under VPS.

Any suggestion can be helpfull.

Thanks

Hi doc,

You can try to install Magento under php5-cgi workaround which already has all the required extensions precompiled. You can check the Installing Magento on a PHP4 server Knowledge Base article for details.

Please let me know if it helps.

Thank you.

Thanks for quick responce.
OK, I followed the instruction but I’m getting the Internal Server Error. I checked the location and it is located in cgi-bin/php5-cgi and changed the permission to 755. Still getting the internal error message.

Thanks

Hi doc,

Do you have an access to your web-server logs ? It might help much to know what is the error.

Most of problems with php5-cgi go from incorrect paths set in the .htaccess. Could you please post it here ? And what is the full puth that you put your php5-cgi under ?

Thank you.

Here is my htaccess:

<IfModule mod_php5.c>

php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off
    php_flag short_open_tag on
</IfModule>

Action php5-cgi /cgi-bin/php5-cgi
AddHandler php5
-cgi .php

DirectoryIndex index
.php

RewriteEngine on

#RewriteBase /

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/media/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/skin/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/js/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond
%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond
%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l

RewriteRule
.* index.php

And my cgi file is located at:
http://www.bargaincollection.com/cgi-bin/php5-cgi
and htaccess is located at
http://www.bargaincollection.com/.htaccess

Thanks

Can you try deleting these lines?

<IfModule mod_php5.c>
php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off
php_flag short_open_tag on
</IfModule>

Yes, I have cgi-bin and I’ve done the php5-cgi trick but it is not working. I also talked to tech support but they couldn’t help me with this.
