How To Make Whole Site Use Secure URL’s?

After installing SSL Certificate and going to System>Configuration>Web, these are my settings:

Unsecure

Base URL http://www.mysitename.com/
Base Link URL {{unsecure_base_url}}
Base Skin URL {{unsecure_base_url}}skin/
Base Media URL {{unsecure_base_url}}media/
Base JavaScript URL {{unsecure_base_url}}js/

Secure

Base URL https://mysitename.com/
Base Link URL {{secure_base_url}}
Base Skin URL {{secure_base_url}}skin/
Base Media URL {{secure_base_url}}media/
Base JavaScript URL {{secure_base_url}}js/
Use Secure URLs in Frontend Yes
Use Secure URLs in Admin No

The problem is going to www.mysitename.com, does just that - it goes to that url and not the secure url.

So, to counter this, my host put in a redirect so that when going to www.mysitename.com it redirected to https://mysitename.com/ instead.

But all the links in the navigation bar, and subsequently the products, have the unsecure url properties.

How can i make all of my site display the correct secure urls.

Thank You!!!

Just ran into this issue myself and changed the BASE URL in the UNSECURED section to https://www.mydomain.com/

Not sure if that’s the correct solution, but it seems to make my links work. I’m actually looking for a slightly different answer… how to you secure just the checkout process instead of the whole site?

Why in the world would you want to secure the whole site? Unless you have a very good reason for doing so DON’T. You’ll slow down your site, every page will have to be sent encrypted. This is a BAD idea.
