Create a custom HTML information page inside each category?

I am currently looking at building / recreating an existing site with Magento, but need to be able to include a separate, updatable HTML page within each category that will display a few images and some text relating to the products in that category.

At the moment, the user clicks on a category title, and is taken straight to this info page as a kind of intermediary (non-magento site). I feel this is detrimental to the end-user and increases the number of clicks they have to make in order to buy a product.

Hence, I would like to make reading the page optional, and therefore linked from most pages in that category ‘read more information about x’ etc. The user could then click this if they want to.

Can Magento do this?

Many thanks

It is not completely clear what you want.. but you can create static blocks through CMS-> Manage Static Blocks. you could add this static blocks to the top of a category.  You should select the correct block at the Manage Category page. Is this what you’re looking for?

When you want it completely separated from the category page you can do the following. Create a CMS page for each category. Update catalog/product/list.phtml at your front-end template for each category or use XML layout update to add the link to this CMS page.

Maybe I’m not completely clear but I think it isn’t very complicated what you want. Could you explain how it should work?

Yes, what youve described is pretty much it.

What i’m planning to do at the moment is to create a Static Block for each category, which ideally will contain an eye-catching image. I will also create a separate CMS / info page for each category (although this could be expanded), which I am hoping I can link from the image displayed with the Static Block.

I’m not sure how I will link to the CMS page from the static block but I’m sure after some more hunting though the documentation and forum I will find out how.

Thanks for the quick reply!

You could use just <a href="{{store url=""}}page.html"><img src="IMAGE.jpeg"></a> or something like this.

Thanks! that has actually got me linking to the page that I wanted. I spent ages looking for ways to enable php in the blocks etc, and your solution is so much easier.

The problem now, is that I am forwarded to *just* the basic html page i have created, and lose the rest of the site. Is there a way to make the CMS page appear in the main column of the site? Otherwise it is a fairly easy process to make the page open in a javascript window but I’d rather not have to do that..

Thanks again

Edit:

I have made some progress on this, I hadnt set any layout properties for the page under Page Information > Custom Design. I chose the layout ‘3 Column’ and its all as it should be.
