I am having a bit of trouble with my installation.  I have set it all up, entered the database info into the wizard, but when i put in the base url of test.mysite.com/magento it just says the url is invalid.  Anyone have a fix for this?

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is something I’m doing wrong, or if its 1and1

the install goes fine, however I can not for the life of me get the catalog to work.

I create the categories, I make the items (everything enabled and in stock)

and yet, on my homepage the “Store Catalog” is blank, does not show any categories, or any products… HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, all. I’m new to Magento and trying to install on a 1&1;(shared) server. I’ve read through a *lot* of threads (thank you, all!) and it looks as though it should be straightforward. Before starting the install, I got php5 working and had done the check to be sure it met all of the Magento requirements - it did.

I uploaded the zipped file of the full install (ver 1.3.2.4) and unzipped it into the root, making them all go into the magento folder. I pointed my domain to the magento file. I changed the permissions as directed and modified the .htaccess file. I did get a bit confused with this part. I ended up with these lines -

AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

and for the rewrite I first tried

RewriteBase /magento/

and when that didn’t work I changed it to

RewriteBase /

Those were the only changes I made to .htaccess (the one in the magento folder.)

When I tried to get to the install, I got this message:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Does it only give you one chance to install and if I got it wrong the first time, I have to start over? That was the impression I got reading other threads, but it doesn’t make sense to me.

Or do I just have the configuration all messed up? Thank you for all of your help!!

Cheers!
Penny

I have really struggled (and spent all day) trying to install Magento on 1&1;.

Previously, I have installed both OSCommerce, Creloaded and Wordpress in the past with very few problems. As it stands I couldn’t recommend this software given how difficult is appears to be to install.

HP 5.0 is running OK after removing comments in htaccess file.

Database is installed with sample data (I think - I never get far enough to check).

I have tried uploading the complete site, the downloader and by SSH and can’t get anything to work.

The problem using any of the above methods is the same - it always seems to default to the downloader front page, appears to download successfully and then just returns to the download page. You cannot click on any of the next steps..

(when you try a second time you get errors e.g.

On Magento version 1.6.2. installed recently, when I try to create a new customer, if I put a different date on \"Created At\”, I get the next error and I cannot create the customer. Any idea?

This worked for me! thanks. Spent two nights fighting to install magento on shared server with no luck.

Using your info and adding a php.ini file with extension=pdo.so and extension=pdo_mysql.so in it did the trick!

Cheers
