Hi

Ive been reading through the forums a bit recently, and one thing that keeps coming up is performance, and many people & companies saying that you cannot, cannot or ever get, decent performance on a plan at around $5/month or low cost shared hosting. However, the simple fact is, if the hosting is setup correctly, and optimised, your Magento website can run very fast, even on a plan costing as little as £20/year! So, thats what my website is on, OK, so I only get 500MB space and 20GB bandwidth, but thats all I need right now. If I had 50K products it might be a little different, but I dont. So, for all those people who think they cannot setup/start and online store with Magento on a cheap hosting, visit my site and think again.

What I do have to say is that the support is not as fast as a more expensive package, and the uptime may not be 100%, but I am just addressing the performance issue. Im on a shared server, not top spec (I believe only a single quad core and 8GB RAM), with around 50-100 other accounts on it.

Hopefully this will show the people who keep saying you CANNOT get good performance on a cheap plan that its completely untrue, maybe from some lesser companies, but not from all.

Alex

That’s great to hear!  I’m running on a VPS with 10 people or less and a 100mbit connection. I get terrible speeds; as slow as 10 seconds for first page load, 3-5 seconds for each page after.  Cache enabled…

I visited your site and indeed it did load pretty fast.  You’ve motivated me to start using the profiler and hunting some optimization methods.

regards

@amwhite

You hit the nail on the head smile I think the people that are the loudest about insisting that you can’t get good performance, those are the people trying to sell you hosting plans wink

I agree with what you have said. This largely depends on the server’s specifications, configurations and the amount of website on the server itself.
