Warning: require(app/Mage.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/cm/public_html/magento/index.php on line 26

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘app/Mage.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/cm/public_html/magento/index.php on line 26

First step of install, I get this error.

drwxrw-rw- 6 cm csc 4096 Aug 30 23:02 ./
drwxrwxr-x 11 cm csc 4096 Aug 31 03:51 ../
drwxrwxr-x 6 cm csc 4096 Aug 30 23:02 code/
drwxrwxr-x 5 cm csc 4096 Aug 30 23:01 design/
drwxrw-rw- 3 cm csc 4096 Aug 30 23:02 etc/
-rw-rw-r-- 1 cm csc 31 Aug 30 23:02 .htaccess
-rwxrwxrwx 1 cm csc 12020 Aug 31 02:43 Mage.php*
drwxrwxr-x 6 cm csc 4096 Aug 31 07:51 .svn/

As you can see I did a full 777 permissions on it even to make sure it wasn’t a permissions issue.

your ‘app’ folder is not accessible because it doesn’t have x flag for group and other users.

try: chmod go+x app

hi
i think to change permissions you must be root.
