How do I share Magento session data with my own application

Hello,

I have a Magento store as below:

http://www.magentocommercce.com

I have another custom PHP application also running on same server as below:

http://www.magentocommercce.com/myapp

This application has a front end and backend admin panel just like Magento.

What I want is, when admin logs into Magento admin panel, and then if he goes to my application by clicking a link, then my application can read session data from Magento so that user doesn’t need to login again.

So basically rather than creating admin users of my application, I want to use same admin users as Magento.

Same is the case with front end i.e. if a user logs into my Magento store, and then he goes to my application front end, then my application can read user session data.

So is this kind of session sharing possible?

Thanks
