Hi.

I think that Magent’s name & address format is not match Japanese format.
So, I made Japanese format.

address_template_plain:
{{lastname}} {{firstname}} {{postcode}} {{company}} {{region}} {{city}} {{street1}} {{street2}}

address_template_html
:
{{lastname}} {{firstname}} <br/>{{company}}<br/>{{postcode}}<br/>{{region}} {{city}}<br/>{{street}}<br/>T{{telephone}}

>Roy
Could you reflect it in SQL of the setup?

Regards.

Hey Rack correct me if I am wrong here, but shouldn’t it be

Postal Code
Region/City
Street
Company
Last Name First Name

Then telephone somewhere, maybe after street.  I am thinking in terms of invoice and shipping.

When creation of an account I would list it your way.  I know you have played around with Magento more than me, so tell me if I am mistaken here.

Regards,
CKD
p.s. Rack thanks for all the hard work on the Translations.  Everyone will owe you a big thanks!

Hi.

In B to C Commerce, a company name is not necessary.
But in B to B Commerce, a company name is necessary.

So a person who belongs to the company, the company name must be in front of their name.
So I was wrong. I think correct is below.

Company
Last Name First Name
Postal Code
Region/City
Street
Telephone

Because Amazon is same format.
But, the format is E-Commerce store’s policy.
So we can offer one of the standard fomat of address & name format.

Sorry, I’m not so good at English.
When the expression is strange, I want you to permit.

Regards.

In all my ecommece sites that I build for Japan, the name is the last on invoices and a lot of consumers like to receive their products at work, because honestly most of them spend more time at work than at home and don’t want to miss the mail.  That always tends to have me put company as an option.

Hi, CKD.

I think, it is a policy of ecommerce site, isn’t it?
Because ecommerce site’s owner who must decide it.
Our task is thinking about right expression in Japanese.

So I think, we are both right.
But Magento system’s uniformity is very important, it must arranges it to other languages.

Rack so does this apply to the way someone enters their information or how the information that the person enters is handled and displayed/printed?  If its just displayed this way and the store owner can arrange the way its printed, then I like your way, but if it also includes to the way the invoice is laid out, then company and name should go to the bottom, don’t you think?

Hi, CKD.

Oh… Invoice!

I didn’t think invoice’s format because currently invoice doesn’t work.
I think “My Account”.

Sorry, I misunderstood.

Hi Guys, you seem to well along here. I have two questions I hope you can help with;

1) Japanese Name Format

1.1) How can I set the correct format for Registrations, Emails and Invoices?
Do you have samples that can be uploaded to test with?

1.2) Company Name, Registration Date, Other

When importing from an existing system, these fields were not available - can they be added without being wiped out by upgrades?

2) Japanese CSV Import Mojibake

I made an import CSV which imported all the fields EXCEPT the Japanese text imported as “?????” ie mojibake.
As far as I can see - all encodes are set as UTF-8.

Any help with these points would be very handy!

Thanks in advance.

For Japanese you need to add sort fields for both surname and given name, and it might be a good idea for product name fields and a few other data-heavy fields that you would want to sort by in the front or back end. You can’t deduce the pronunciation of a Japanese proper name without a sort field written in kana. This is the number 1 annoyance of any software product localized for Japan. This is why the local software industry has not had much to worry about from overseas packages that have any sort of database functionality.

Want to see a real mess? Check out the Dmoz internet directories randomly sorted Japanese version.

if you’re following this thread and need kana-name support, I’ve added my module to give this support in addition to some Japanese shipping modules on the Magento Japan Google Group here: http://groups.google.com/group/magento-jp/files

enjoy.

Majides have kindly made available Japan Magento module with shipping and region data

http://majides.com/blog/23/Majides+Japan+Magento+module+with+shipping+and+region+data/

For developers looking to support a Japanese UI and shipping options in Magento, this means domestic shipping support with the national postal system Yuu-Pack, and international shipping support with EMS.  The Majides Japan module also adds Japanese region data (都道府県) with both English and Japanese localized mappings to the database, and cleans up the address format for Japanese addresses.  This module also adds given-name and family-name kana-yomi fields to the database so that customers can add the hiragana reading of their kanji-character name - a very Japanese-specific feature.

Anyone been able to get it to work?

This has kindly been answered, thanks! My misunderstanding

Template files are part of the design, so this package does not include them.  The “address format” this package modifies and provides is for how Magento will present the addresses during the checkout-steps preview process, the PDF invoice, the admin-side billing / shipping addresses, etc. where custom design templates are not involved.

Very handy indeed!

I got a problem with a mail template. I can’t use {{var customer.lastname}} {{var customer.fastname}} instead of {{var name}}. It doesn’t work. It may be a bug...never mind.

So, simply decided not to use {{var name}} but realized that the recipient’s name is shown as opposite:. To: “Ichiro Hatoyama” <Hatoyama.Iciro@yahoo.com> It does looks so unprofessional..

Does anyone know how to tackle this? I looked up \app\code\core\Mage\Core\Model\Email\template.php, but got no clue.

Rodrigo-
