With one aspect of our business, a customer may fall into 3 different user groups depending on what they are purchasing.

In order to assign various promotions on a per- user group basis, they would need to be placed into these 3 groups.

Example:

Three user groups—A, B and C.
Group A has a promotion where they get one free ITEM-SKU-1.
Group B has a promotion where they get one free ITEM-SKU-2.
Group C has a promotion where they get 50% off any purchase of ITEM-SKU-2.

Some customers may be only A.
Others only B. 
Some may be B and C (first ones free, all others are 50% off retail). 
Some may just be C (50% off retail).

The cases where customers could fall into 2 separate groups, getting two unique sets of promotions & pricing .. is that possible in the current system?  Is there a creative way to accomplish this without major development?  Is it a good feature request?

This is almost certainly a necessary feature for me.

this would be cool, need to build a custom functionality for magento, and having this possibility will allow that functionality

I am also looking for something like this. A way to give a customer multiple variables where you can base price rules on.

Any progress on this?  For everyone that wants this functionality, perhaps it would be worth it to combine resources and hire one of the reliable Magento developers to take on this task?  I’m sure its possible, but not sure how invasive it would be to the entire system.  In other works, maybe the Mage Core can’t physically handle one-to-many relationships with Customer Groups at this point, or any modules that use Customer Groups as well.

Any news on this?  This functionality is desperately needed by our company.  The usefulness of Magento as a solution for our company has dropped 30% due to the lack of this feature.  We mainly need customers to be in one or more of several groups for emailing special offers, and other report & communication.  Most add-ons only support groups as opposed to attributes.

Still no luck? Maybe there is extension for it?
