I have the same problem. After installation Magento worked properly for a while, but since then got this
parser error : Input is not proper UTF-8, indicate encoding !

I cannot step further unless this is solved. Please help!

Open your index.php and change the last line to:

Mage::run('default');

Also, did you use any non-standard characters when you created the new store (for website name, store name, or store view name)? I don’t know if this could have anything to do with it (frankly, I doubt it), but the error message you are seeing could indicate a problem with the character encoding.

I use Hungarian characters. In my opinion they should be fine with my utf8 database.

Actually i still have this problem with v1.1.6. I started testing v1.1.5 and it works fine at the moment. If it crashes when i insert a Hungarian character, i will be really disappointed about this project.
