I was looking at some of the screencasts for cms related functionality and it seemed as though all changes were immediately reflected on the live site. Is there a way to preview changes without commiting to them so that front end users don’t accidentally experience an admin’s mistake?

Welcome to the community. Unfortunately, there is no way to preview the output at this time.

One way to do it would be creating a new site and/or store just for previewing… Preview the cms-page in “MyPreviewStore” and move it to “MyRealStore” when satisfied with it.
