Changed domain and magento connect updates but changes are not reflected on the site

I recently had to change the domain of a site and cleared the cache, changed the domain settings, re-indexed everything and all seems to be working, meaning I don’t see any errors. I can log into the Magento Connect and run the updates without errors and install extensions successfully BUT when I go back to my admin none of the changes are reflected, updates are not shown and extensions are no where to be found. I again tried to clear caches, log out and log back in, re-install updates etc. but it seems there is a disconnect somewhere between magento connect and the site.

Any ideas how to fix this?

If you have ssh access then data cleaning is easier and can be done by using following commands:

rm -rf var/*
rm -rf downloader/pearlib/cache/* downloader/pearlib/download/*
rm downloader/pearlib/pear.ini
Note: the last line (did you deleted that pear.ini?)
