This is not true that magento requires dedicated server. Furthermore only good and expensive servers might be suitable for magento. So dedicated solution for magento would be very expensive.

Shared hosting can be found for magento.
I would not trust to hosting providers who does not have specialized magento shared hosting plan. If they are using the same hosting plans for magento, they are not as good as they might say (I think they say they are the best smile )

Why?
Servers which are used for shared hostings configured to handle average params. That means average processor load, average memory usage, average hard drive usage, average traffic. Magento project requires high processor performance and high memory usage. So servers for magento should have faster CPU, more memory, less hard drive etc...Completely different server configurations. That is why if hosting provider does not say “Magento only!” or “Heavy websites only!” - do not use it for magento website.

Well put! and do absolutely 100% agree!
Not only becuase we specialize in exactly MAgento Hosting. And that is our primary business.

But also because that general hosting provides has a _general_ focus. and therefore not put time, effort and ressources into prioritizing magento ecommerce specialized requirements.

We offer free Magento support and upgrades.

Test how fast our demo store: http://demomagento.nginxhosting.com/magento/index.php

You should really sign up your demo stor for : http://magebenchmark.sonassi.com/

In that way people would be able to compare you demo with other providers.

A Magento Demo Store wiht 100 Demo products is a joke.

Not one single provider worldwide offers Magento demo Stores with 1000 | 5000 | 10000 products.

Why ?

We are looking for a Magento host and considering RackSpace or Crucial. I’m a little concerned with Crucial’s benchmark tests, it must be said. On a side note and advice to all, try to host in your target country - it DOES make a difference to speed for your customer. And as Google is now ranking sites in search results based on speed as well as all the other factors, this is critical.

Yellow,

We are going to be going with Crucial hosting for our Magento Professional site. We will update here what we experience. Searching for a host has been even harder than looking for an ecommerce platform.
