Magento

Hi folks,

This is my first post on the forum, so go easy on me :^)

I’m an experienced developer, and consult with different designers. I have no less than FIVE clients who want shopping carts by yesterday. As we all know, choosing a shopping cart is a real minefield, and having earned their trust, I’ve been asked to evaluate different options for them. I’d like to try Magento, but I can’t find affordable hosting.

I want a company in the U.S., so I called RackSpace. They quoted me about $400/month. This is out of my price range, especially for a trial. I’m used to hosting trials on my GoDaddy space for about $5/month. So, I stopped there, thinking that the rest would be similarly priced.

This leaves me frustrated. I can see the beauty in the design of Magento, and the community version is free… but the hosting cost is prohibitive. Grr....

Any suggestions?

I have been with Aspiration Hosting for 10 months and it is not too bad. Our site is not all that fast but I think it has to deal more with the optimizations we have not done rather than the hosting environment. But their service is good and the prices are fair.
