Hi all

I have an installation of magento where the call to helper(’catalog/image’) kills the php execution in the rest of the page.

Do you know of any solution?

I’m trying to locate the helper funcition..... will post updates

Is there an error message?

Hi Anton

No, there is no error message, I just get the html of the page up to a cerain point, where the helper is called. Then nothing, no error message.  It ends like this:

<div class="listing-type-grid  catalog-listing"> <!-- the class name will change to .listing-type-cell if viewing in list mode -->

    <
table cellspacing="0" class="generic-product-grid" id="product-list-table">
            <
tr>
            <
td>
            <
class="product-image">
                <
a href="http://194.116.93.131/default/catalog/product/view/id/486/s/talk-now-italiano/category/27/" title="Talk Now: Italiano">
                    <
img src="

this leads me to belive it’s some sort of parsing error, otherwise I should get some PHP signal…

Any ideas?

thanks
Mattia

anything in the apache error log?
also you might want to try and turn on php error logging in the php.ini or apache.conf to get more information.

I loaded a backup of the db in another database in the same server and edited the config to use it. Still not showing any image. If I remove the skin dir I DO see the actual pages tho… but loading from backups older /skin dir and overwriting the actual has not done anything to the problem....

I figure next thing will be to reload the whole backup and overwrite the magento directory.... and loose every change I made in 3 1/2 days of work.  Will see if it does any good.

I traced down the isue to the caching of the images.

If I clear the cache dir in media/catalog/product then for some reason magento keeps trying to find the images in the cache without replenishing it.... and thus the error.

I put chmod 777 the whole magento as a test, and still no go. If I delete the cache dir it does not get recreated, as other caches do.... so I guess it’s the caching that fails on the first place… but why?

I’m having a similar problem. What does GD mean?

GD is a PHP extension.  I was having the same problem, and it’s because I didn’t have GD enabled.  Enabling the extension did the trick.

It helped me, thanks for the helpful info. I was getting “Image extension is not installed” errors when trying to generate/print invoice PDFs in the admin. It was also stuffing up any blocks that were resizing uncached product images. Thanks!

Thanks a lot! It helped me a lot.
I had exactly the same issue:

I have an installation of magento where the call to helper(’catalog/image’) kills the php execution in the rest of the page.

No error in the page, no error in apache nor in php logs… I spent many hours on that.
I don’t know how you found that, but I effectively had the same issue because of GB.
