Hi All,

I have recently downloaded Magento to try (on my computer using wampserver 2.0) However it runs very very slow.

I was wondering if anyone has had any success in optimizing a localhost for the developement of a Magento store?

Thanks

I have lighttpd and xcache, feels a bit faster than apache2 and apc. I think it’s very important to put the memory up in php.ini and give xcache and mysql a lot of cache memory. I get everything from 0.5 to 1 sec on a Core 2 Duo 2,6gHz with 4GB of memory.

Well, I had to install Apache for another reason and with it and XCache and mod_php pages load around 0.3-.8 seconds, so I am not so sure about lighhtpd being faster…

Maybe you can check the next articles:

Also, you can add the next instruction to your Apache host (I know that the discussion or post of this is round here).

KeepAlive on
KeepAliveTimeout 5

Another Php Cache (APC) it’s a good option.
I don0t remember another tip at this time.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I tried installing Magento on Lighy however I could not get though the installation. I followed the posts on the forum about substituting Apache mod_rewrite but I could not get them to work.

On My home computer using Wampserver2 and APC I am getting page load times of around 8 Secs for the demo store.  Adding to the shopping cart is about 13.5 secs

changed my Mysql settings similar to the ones mentioned here

Just a little bit of my short experience. I got so much performance under Linux.
Can you try on Linux?
