Get a Configurable Product’s Children on Checkout

When I send down the SKU of a configurable product to the ERP (thorough an API), it needs to be the SKU of the configurable product’s child. 

That being the case I need to get at the child item.  It is a part of the object (see attached image from debugging output), but I can’t find the method to actually access that information.  Can anyone help with this?

Never mind.. found it.. the Online Documentation is out of date.. I found it in the class itself.

$_children $_item->getChildrenItems();

May I ask what debugger you used to get that output?  It seems like something like that could be very useful for me.
