Greetings.

After some trial and tribulation, the Magento Installation Wizard finally appeared after a host of errors.  Much to my chagrin, the continue button remains disabled even when the terms and conditions are accepted.  I’m fairly confident this isn’t the way it’s intended to be.

I checked the code of the page, and the javascript components seem to be in order

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://mysite.com/magento/index.php/js/prototype/prototype.js" ></script>

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://mysite.com/magento/index.php/js/prototype/validation.js" ></script>

Perhaps this is an issue with .htaccess?  A review of the knowledgebase and forums did not reveal much, so I’m hopeful someone might provide some guidance, as this does not appear to be an isolated incident.

.htaccess:

<IfModule mod_php5.c>

php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off
    php_flag short_open_tag on
</IfModule>

DirectoryIndex index.php

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase
/magento/
RewriteCond $!^(index\.php|media|skin|js|robots\.txt)
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /magento/index.php/$1 [L]

My thanks in advance for any assistance—it’s entirely possible I’ve overlooked something obvious.

http://mysite.com/magento/index.php/js/prototype/prototype.js is not OK, it should be
http://mysite.com/magento/js/prototype/prototype.js

Could we start from original .htaccess ?

@Moshe

Thanks for your reply.  I noticed the index.php in there, too, but I’m unable to find the actual file (the html from the installation procedure) to make edits.

The original .htaccess yielded a persistent 404 error - I was able to get the installation wizard to run by following the instructions of some others on the forums who had had similar troubles.

Ok, try adding a slash in the beginning of condition:

RewriteCond $!^/(index\.php|media|skin|js|robots\.txt)

Thanks - I appreciate your assistance.  I tried adding the slash—the result:

Not Found
The requested URL /magento/index.php/index.php was not found on this server.

Charming, isn’t it?

As part of my “wide net” approach to troubleshooting, I revised the “original” .htaccess file to read:

<IfModule mod_php5.c>

php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off
    php_flag short_open_tag on
</IfModule>

DirectoryIndex index.php

RewriteEngine on
RewriteBase
/magento/

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/media/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/skin/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/js/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond
%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond
%{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l

RewriteRule
^(.*)$ /magento/index.php/$1 [L]

The issue with the continue button remains, however, as the jscript directories still include index.php.  Maybe this will be easier to work with?
