Like many other community members, let me first applaud the work the Magento crew has done with this product. Really… well done.

And now for my 10 cents…

I get (and like) the structure and flexibility gained by creating the larger group, configurable, etc products from the basic simple product. Perhaps you can save some steps for a store manager without altering your framework by adding:
- a copy button in the ‘catalog products listing view’ to duplicate products (including those powerful group types).
- the ability to create simple products from within group or configurable products. Basically this would reduce the multiple steps now needed to create a group of associated, almost identical products.
- a field to link product information to tech documents (I know this can be added beyond out of the box… but I figured I throw in the idea).
