Hi guys,
I am installing on a mediatemple dv server. I followed the instructions on the wiki. The only issue now is that I am getting a 404.

The requested URL /var/www/vhosts/xxx.com/cgi-bin/php5-cgi/magento/index.php was not found on this server.

The CGI is set to off. My cgi dir is placed below httpdocs.

This is the content of my htaccess file.

<IfModule mod_php5.c>
php_flag magic_quotes_gpc off
php_flag short_open_tag on
</IfModule>

Action php5-cgi /var/www/vhosts/xxx.com/cgi-bin/php5-cgi
AddHandler php5-cgi .php

DirectoryIndex index.php

RewriteEngine on

#RewriteBase /

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/media/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/skin/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/js/
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-l

RewriteRule .* index.php

???

Thanks for the help
urs

My cgi dir is placed below httpdocs.

vs

Action php5-cgi /var/www/vhosts/xxx.com/cgi-bin/php5-cgi

Hi ursula2k,
So where is it actually placed?

I have php5-cgi under my /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/cgi-bin/ and the following lines in .htaccess

Action php5-cgi /cgi-bin/php5-cgi
AddHandler php5
-cgi .php

It works fine. Please let me know if the same will help you.

Hi Michael

I have it in the exact same location as you.
changing back the htaccess to /cgi-bin/php5-cgi still gives me the 404: /cgi-bin/php5-cgi/magento/index.php was not found

what i can’t understand is why it places magento/index.php in the cgi-bin folder...?

Hi Michael
I have it in the exact same location as you.
changing back the htaccess to /cgi-bin/php5-cgi still gives me the 404: /cgi-bin/php5-cgi/magento/index.php was not found

Could you check apache logs to see what is logged when you try to access any magento url ? Can you also show me what do you have in your cgi-bin directory ? I need smth like the output of

ls -la /var/www/vhosts/xxx.com/cgi-bin/ && ls -la /var/www/vhosts/xxx.com/

what i can’t understand is why it places magento/index.php in the cgi-bin folder...?

That’s a common way that apache handles cgi requests.
