Using Triggers in e-mail Marketing using Magento

Is it possible within Magento to setup e-mail triggers? It’s clear that the best e-mail newsletters don’t stop at personalizing the content of emails - they also personalize the delivery, using triggers to send e-mails based on customers’ schedules and actions.

In Magento this might work by a customer tiggering an e-mail a week after purchasing one product [product A] advertising ‘Related Product’ [Product B and C]. This is know to be a highly effective way of increasing the value of each customer.

Another possibility with Triggers could be if a person has added products to their wishlist and they have remained there for a period of time [2 weeks for example] then they recieve an e-mail advertising the product with a discount [Free shipping].

Or Customer has abandoned their cart, after a period of time they receive a reminder about it.

Customer has not logged on for a some time [1 month] they receive an message showing them what they missed.

Some of these don’t have to be seperate e-mails but could be combined into a regular newsletter as part of some personalization. For example the newsletter could start [We have not seen you in a long time, look what you have missed] and then at the bottom show the content of their abandoned cart with a link back to the checkout.

There would also be the possibility to increase the interation with the website, when a customer purchases a product [product A] after a period of time [2 weeks] they receive an e-mail asking them to review the product.

There are lots of opportunities with Tiggers but can Magento do this? If magento can not do this then is there someone interested in adding this functionality?

This sounds like an awsome idea! Maybe you should post it in feature request too

I spoke to an online retailer recently who said that this kind of functionality had been the key to really growing his business.

Top cat, this can be done in a few different ways.

1. Through Magento itself - you will need to set it up though via custom code.
2. Through a third party email provider - you will need to find one that can integrate with Magento. Most of the major ones will integrate and allow you to do this.
3. Through your CRM - Not sure if you.have one, but most CRM systems have automated triggered response emails as a standard feature.

If I knew more about your set-up I could point you in the right direction…

There are many such email services which have an API. All you need is a cron which checks whether any such events have happened (wishlist still there after 2 weeks etc.) and then your cronned script picks the e-mail address and text and passes it to the API of the email management service.

J.T.: I like the idea with a developer challenge cash pool, and the use of Pledge money to support the Magento Developer Challenge. I have tried to register, but the confirmation email does not work (or is VERY slow).

I also noticed that the number of pledges that shows up is only 7.

Who will make sure that the actual winner gets the money that has been collected?
