Well- nevermind, I made a fresh new install of magento and pick it up from there and now it’s solved...probably I have other things messed up...

Exactly the same question about “right” and “left” in checkout.xml because there is no change at my page.
I wrote it at Comments of webinar.

I saw this on another post, it should help :

Go to menu entry: Admin > System > Cache Management, and make sure that all are Disabled when you are developing or making changes to config or layout files.
