I can’t find the location of the tax calculation.
Where is the tax calculation file?

You can check the Sales -> Tax menu section in admin.

You can check the files under app\code\core\Mage\Sales\Model\Quote\Address\Total\ directory.
You can also find out how does it work in file app\code\core\Mage\Sales\Model\Quote\Address.php, methods getTotalModels(), collectTotals(), etc.
