Like some of you, I am a current OSCommerce user (CRE Loaded 6.2 to be specific) and one of the main things I need for my store is ability for digital downloads. 

For the current release, does it support it similar to OSC?

I searched the forums and it said the feature would be released with 1.1, but the road map says that digital downloads isn’t available yet.

Which is it?

Downloadable products will be part of the 1.2 release. The 1.1 release includes support for virtual products.

Understood.  Is there a roadmap eta for 1.2 release?  Not trying to rush anyone, just curious.

Is there a rough estimate on 1.2?  I know that djgizmo was trying not to rush, but I have a few carts that need the digital downloads and I really don’t want to set up something else and then migrate.  If we’re only a couple months away, is this functionality in trunk, and if so how stable is trunk? (I know...not a good idea for production environment, but I’m comfortable with running it...if it’ll solve my problem).

How about putting some dynamic CMS in there too ^^

Agree. Digital downloads should be a priority, but more than anything it would be great to know if this will be happening within the next couple of months or if we should look for a different alternative at this point… It will help to plan things to have an idea at this point…

Yes, digital downloads is a great and much sought after feature.

I trust more digital downloads. They are nice.

Yea, I too eagerly await downloads.  Literally w/o it, I won’t be able to switch from CRE loaded.  I can wait as long as its implemented correctly in magento.  Nothing is worse that having a release that’s either buggy or doesn’t have better features than a competing product.

I would also like to have the option to add digital downloads - though I’m not sure I’m talking about the same concept as “selling digital goods”.

My request is having the option to have “file” type fields one could add to a product.
For each such field it would be nice to have the option to either upload the file directly, or use a URL.

Such an option is intended to be used as a way to manage freely downloadable product manuals, drivers, etc. for each product.

Is there a release date for 1.2 yet?  I would LOVE to get off of Zen Cart and onto Magento, but cannot do this until there is a digital download feature…

In the meantime, has anyone created a module that allows for digital downloads?  If so, kindly post a link!!!

1.2 is sitting at 100% complete right now. http://www.magentocommerce.com/roadmap/release/1.2.0

I’m willing to bet it will be released today, or at the absolute latest this week.

While not available as a direct download yet, It is available via SVN now as well as through Magento Connect as an upgrade.
