The problem is that for your server setup the PHP variable $_SERVER[’HTTPS’] is not being set and therefore Magento does not know that it is already being called via SSL so tries to redirect.

You can temporarily fix this by putting the following two lines under <?php in the index.php file:

if($_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'== 443)

$_SERVER['HTTPS'true;

This assumes that your server’s SSL port is 443 so you should change that number if it is not.

I have added a comment to the following bug report so hopefully this will make its way in to a future version of Magento:

I’ve got a similar problem
I have just installed the Blue theme using Magento Connect Manager.
Right after when i go to ~.com/admin page using Firefox it gives me

Redirect Loop
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

In Chrome and Konqueror it actually allows me to log in but all of the functions are frozen and not clickable.

Please, help

if($_SERVER['SERVER_PORT'== 443)

$_SERVER['HTTPS'true;

Sorry but this is not working for me.

I added wordpress extension in Magento & now URL is

mysite.org/magento/wordpress/homepage/index

which is not working (showing me The page isn’t redirecting properly)

Instead of it the following is working fine

mysite.org/magento/index.php/wordpress/homepage/index

Why this URL is not working without index.php
All other pages are working properly

This worked frontend for me, but not backend - but I know why. Guess I’ll have to check the ‘use secure for backend’ in the config as well as frontend if anyone cares smile

EDIT: Strangely, it was already correct but not liking it. Changing the value for ‘web/secure/use_in_adminhtml’ (ID 387 in core_config_data) to a ‘0’ made it accessible over https and fixed my problem!?!

UPDATE `magento`.`core_config_dataSET `value` = '0' WHERE `core_config_data`.`config_id` =387;

So anyhow, apparently telling magento not to use secure URLs in the admin lets you do exactly the opposite.

Nice.
