Hi, magento works fine out of the box with php compiled as cli.

but when php is compiled as CGI module, it doesn’t work.

i solved this issue by modifying my .htaccess file.

but, is there no .htaccess file that would work on both types of servers?

otherwise, magento should really be downloadable in two different format,
1) standard php5 server
2) php5.on cgi server

otherwise going through the .htaccess over and over whenever new magento release comes out can be quite cumbersome and confusing.

and i bet a lot of the folks here do not even know what type of php they are on, the php built-in or php as cgi.

Could you give more details please?
