Hello,

In system>>customers>>Create New Account Options

there is a filed that says “Default Email Domain”. What is that for, and what should be put there?

Many thanks!

I believe it’s the “@whatever.com” part of your email address.

PHP and server-side code in generals allows you to set the “sent from” address to anything you want.  so it looks like Magento is giving you the option

I might be wrong on this rasberry

It doesn’t make too much sense for that to be an option when creating a user…

Hi,

No, that’s not it, as I have left it as “emaildomain.com” but the emails are sent properly from the addresses that I have set up in store and sales emails....

Hi, I was also interested in this and strangely this is still left unclear.
I found an answer to this in book: Magento, Beginner’s guide by William Rice.

So, this is used when the site administrator enters Order into the system (admin area) instead of customer. And it is possible the customer’s email doesn’t exist at that point so customers id and this email domain are going to be used like “customer_id@default_email_domain”.
You can use this to record orders that arrive at your domain.

This helped me to understand this Default Email Domain is not critical if it’s left untouched.

This setting seems to not be used after Mage Version 1.4.0.0

Just noticed. If you want to not require email addresses for admin orders, just remove the javascript validation from the email field and magento will auto-create an email address for the customer.
