How to Open PHTML Files in Dreamweaver

I just finished writing an article in the wiki that will help you setup Dreamweaver to open PHTML files. I know that some of you probably use it to design your sites. I particularly like to see my designs in the Design View after styling my CSS et al. Well, by just adding the PHTML extension in Dreamweaver’s preferences will not colorize the PHP code or provide hints, and it will also not let you see the file in Design View unless you incorporate this workaround as specified in the wiki article linked below:

http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/Opening-PHTML-Files-in-Dreamweaver/

Enjoy!

Scott,
Nice man.  Good job hacking at CS3 a bit.

Tried to do the same, but I somehow corrupted my MMDocuments . xml file.  Any chance you could post yours so I can get a clean copy> I didn’t back mine up.  Shame because its only 2 lines.. to edit.. and I screwed that up.

the backwards << sort of threw me off.

Can you post yours?

Ok, looks like we’ve found a forum bug. File attachments aren’t working. Oh well. Try this link.

Just right-click and choose save link as… otherwise it will open the XML file.

We’ll take a look at the file upload issue and resolve. Thanks for pointing this out.

Thanks for the howto on getting the phtml files showing up with at the least - more color.

I have cs3 and couldnt seem to get the design view option to work.

Thats okay though.. Ive got code highlighting, which is what I really wanted.

I have the same problem in Design view. Is this a know issue or I’m I missing a step?
In design view I just get the words “php” repeated on two lines.

Hi guys,

It seems like I have exactly the same problem.

I followed the steps documented on http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/general/opening_phtml_files_in_dreamweaver but some how, it did not work…
I am attaching a copy of my xml file; if someone could take a look - or, if someone who has implemented this successfully could send me a copy of their working xml, I would appreciate that very much…

Thanks you in advance.

You can add PHTML as a new file type in Dreamweaver. Then you will able to edit phtml files as php files.

Here is a great way to do that:
