Hi all

in past magento releases I modified the file gd2.php to change the default php compression of jpg images.

Now I’ve seen that the code in this new gd2.php is different…

I’m not able to change the default (75) compression to 100

does anybody know how can I do?

Thanks
Chiara

Is the compression really that bad?  It looks pretty good on my site, and almost all of my images are created using the GD library with watermarks on larger images.

They honestly don’t look that bad.  I do see some compression artifacts around the animals and text, but overall it’s not that bad.

For what it’s worth, I agree… at this resolution setting, I can’t be certain I’m seeing any difference even when I try.

also on the small?

Looks fine. It’s normal for pictures with dropshadows.  You are using a large gradient of colors and grayscale so you end up with some compression and dithering effects.  Still, it looks fine.

My thumbnails are set to 140x140 and don’t have dropshadow.  Check it out:

Nothing special.  I just use the Magento image resize function that already existed in the templates.

I think you should avoid dropshadows.  grin
