except for mhash extension in PHP. They are telling me the only way to remedy this is compile my own PHP. Of course since I am not a pro, I have not idea on how to do this.
Is the missing extension above the reason why I am getting the 404 error message?
mod_rewrite and .htaccess files and all that are already enabled on my web hosting account/ domain.
Please anyone help if you can and I thank you in advance.
I am not running it on a machine/ server I have control over.
I made a formal suggestion to Dreamhost to add Magento their one click installs (they have quite a few).
Perhaps the good people of Varien should reach out to the main Web Hosting companies out there (top 15)?
Thank you for the link- I had seen those guys on that page.
I am loathe to pay-up extra for hosting for now since I paid one year in advance to Dreamhost (works out to about $8/ month), have 15 domain names with them and since they are really good otherwise.
I hope I will be able to solve this and won’t be forced into a corner.
I got the same error when making an re-installation. The error occurred because I had set MAGE_RUN_CODE and MAGE_RUN_TYPE in the vhost definition. When Magento cannot find a specific store in a multi site installation you will also get this error.
A much better error message in this case would have been: ”Store not found”.
I got past this some time ago… but i dont remember what the solution was… a friend of mine is good at programming, he figured it out…
Sorry I cant be more help…
